Classroom Visits

We offer classroom visits (virtually and in-person) to educators across Ontario. Educators are paired with a trainee or scientist from UHN who will provide STEM-based workshops for students. The workshops will be hands-on and focused on a topic requested by the educator. This can be aligned with the curriculum and/or it can touch on exciting work being done at UHN and in the healthcare field in general.

Here are some examples of our offerings:

  • Elementary School Visits

In this classroom opportunity, elementary school educators from local schools are paired with a volunteer(s) who will visit their class multiple times throughout the school year. Workshops will focus on an interactive hands-on STEM activity. E.g. Paper Plate Cell Models, Building a Respiratory Kit or Brain Model, Exploring Genetic Traits.

  • High School Visits

In this classroom opportunity, high school educators are paired with a volunteer(s) who will visit their class multiple times throughout the school year. Workshops will focus on career development in STEM. E.g. What can you do with a science degree, How to read a scientific paper, Careers in Science - Biology, Careers in Engineering/Math

  • One Time Visits

Educators who are interested in a virtual workshop by a UHN scientist but cannot commit to multiple classroom visits, can sign up for this opportunity. Requests can be for a specific workshop or a research/career talk. This can include sessions for after-school programs/clubs. E.g. STEM Clubs, University/College Prep Sessions
