Experiential Learning

We are providing several opportunities for youth to get learning opportunities beyond the traditional classroom. Students will come to UHN and experience first-hand what scientists do and what their day to day looks like. This includes opportunities to develop research projects while getting paid and/or getting high school credit. These experiences will allow students to develop their skills, interests and professional networks early on and see different STEM-careers.

Here are some examples of our experiential learning offerings:

  • PA Day at UHN - Elementary

This program offers elementary school students an opportunity to come on-site for an interactive workshop. Sessions are planned for days when students aren’t in school, and provide first-hand experiences in labs and with UHN staff and trainees. Learn more about STEM and possible careers in the field.

  • PA Day at UHN - High School

This program offers high school students an opportunity to come on-site for an interactive workshop. Sessions are planned for days when students aren’t in school, and provide first-hand experiences in labs and with UHN staff and trainees. Learn more healthcare careers and the diverse work opportunities available at UHN!

  • STEM Exploration

In this program, students (16+) will have the opportunity to learn more about careers in the Canadian healthcare system and ways to prepare for such a career. UHN physicians, surgeons, scientists and graduate students will work directly with the selected students to provide medical education, information, and mentorship.
