Volunteering is a great way to get involved and enriched in the community. It can help inspire the next generation of scientists, engineers and healthcare workers. You will also get to expand your current skillset and develop new skills. It’s a great way to work on science communication, leadership and teaching skills and you can easily put it on your CV/resume.

If you are interested in more of a leadership role with our team, apply to be an outreach ambassador.
As an outreach ambassador you will help develop and facilitate outreach programming. This would involve a monthly meeting where ambassadors from across all UHN institutes discuss ways to engage youth and volunteers.
*The application form is shared at the end of each summer, and the term for this position is 1 year (e.g., October to August).
-
Programming is currently evenly split between in-person and virtual. Volunteers choose which nature of event they feel comfortable with and what works best for their schedule.
-
It is very flexible. It depends on how much you want to get involved. However, all volunteers that complete three activities/events will receive a certificate indicating membership.
-
Events will vary depending on the target audience and the activity involved. Typically events will be 1 hour but sometimes we do host symposiums or conferences that could be half day events.
-
As the involvement is very flexible, feel free to only volunteer at a certain type of event or with a certain age group. We appreciate any and all types of volunteering!
-
Transporation is not covered for events within the Greater Toronto Area, although most in-person programming takes place on-site or near UHN (i.e., 30-40 minutes TTC from Queen’s Park Subway). We will cover all other costs associated with the event/community visit, including supplying any materials required. Should you need to purchase activity supplies (or commute beyond the GTA), just make sure you keep all receipts for reimbursement!

Yes, we are constantly adding events to our Current Offerings and Upcoming Events pages. Many of these would benefit from a large volunteer base. Feel free to mention the event you are interested in, in your volunteer form.
